Live, or Memorex?

I am finding myself increasingly interested in alternate reality games ( ARGs ). This is a game that uses the real world as the gameboard, with clues and actions being all present in real time, in real life. You might have to go to a certain website or a certain address and do something, talk to someone, or whatever. I played a kind of lame-but-still-interesting version of this kind of game at GenCon last year... and now I'm interested in making one go.

It would bring into one tight little package several areas of interest I have: viral flow of information across social networks, game design, and writing in particular.

I have an idea for a sort of starter-game. We'll see what I can come up with.

There are companies that do this, for money. This job has officially made it onto my Dream Jobs List.

New writing project

GenCon 2k7 is over; I didn't get to do many of the usual things I've done in the past this time around. Most GenCons I wander around the exhibition hall, go to a bunch of seminars on writing and game design, attend a few lectures discussing how to make adventures or campaigns better ( I am a paper-and-dice roleplayer ). This time I played a lot of Guardian6. Fun, but it chewed up a lot of time.

One of the other things that came up was how much most of us enjoy writing, and how little of it we seem to do together. So, of course we started a new blog. We're going to try and bang out something worth reading every week; five of us ( at the moment ) writing to the same new theme each week, and maybe posting a few helper articles or tidbits of interest as well.

I'm tired. And noticeably lighter in the wallet. I bought less and spent more than any other year. I had a bit of drama over the week as well with Olympia.

Firefly

A very cool show: Firefly

It's SciFi. It's western. It's a cross-genre, well written, well scored, perfect example of an awesome show that got mishandled ( by Fox ) and cancelled, despite it being cool-as-hell. Cool as hell enough to spend millions of dollars on it to make a movie two years after it was cancelled.the only time that's ever happened, by the way.

I try not to get too involved in TV shows; most of them are nowhere near worth the time. At the moment, Battlestar Galactica is the exception here.

And now Firefly is, as well. The good thing about it being cancelled is that it's out on DVD and I can watch all the episodes at my liesure.
