"I am a leaf,
on the wind;
watch how I soar..."
I would be difficult for me to overstate what a good writer Joss Whedon is, or how his charcters, settings, plots, and ideas make my mind, heart, and soul leap at times. How good the show Firefly is.
Whedon is a Michelangelo of mental sculpture, a Botticelli of painting images in my mind's eye. If television can ever be art, then he is indeed an artist of note for our times. Aaaand usually I consider myself to have ( maybe ) a few too many IQ points to obsess over something like a TV show, but as I write I know I'm not alone in this; not that acting or believing something in a group makes you or your actions or ideas sane-er, that is. : )
I could rant a bit, and I'm sure I will, at some point. I'm going to make the MySpace blog my blog of choice. Lucky you. ~Laughs~But for now, I'll just point you in a direction where others have gone before.
The book Finding Serenity is a collection of essays about the show ( the book was published pre-movie ) that covers everything from points of cinematography that are miles from anything as far as quality goes, to anthropological analysis of different cultural groups as portrayed in the series, to what the show might speak to in ourselves, as archetypes.Do yourself a favor... see the movie Serenity, but pretty please don't do it before you see the episodes of Firefly. There are 11 of them, about 40 minutes apiece, and you can rent them : )
You will thank me for this, later. Profusely.
