So, got a new place.
This is the first real place I've had in about 4 years. In that time I'd lived with family, in high-end tech-contractor type residential hotels, with friends in Hawaii, or with people I was dating. I was the essence of portable; a modern day Ranger, striding the earth bringing nerd knowledge to the masses, and being well rewarded for it.
I've had apartments in the past. I've had a ( huge ) house in the past. But back then, I didn't really have much a sense of design, or maybe even of self. As far as making the spaces my own, I always just kinda deferred to who I was living with, accepting their vision.
Well, screw that.
Since then, I've done graduate work in design, and developed a decent sense of how I want my own living space to be. I also have the means to make it happen, and now I have that place... at least for a bit. A townhouse in scenic Will Country, the garden spot of Illinois.
Environmental influences:
- The "mission" style
- Hawaii
- New Orleans
- Past relationships ( to some minor extent, mostly the candle thing )
I'm not sure how permanent this place will be. Most likely I'll be there for at least a year. The goal for a while now has been to become portable; to get the kind of job where it doesn't really matter where I live, so I could live where I want. If I get this done, I can see me spending part of the time here ( Chicago-ish ) and part of the time in Hawaii, or traveling.
This plan is subject to change, of course. Life does that to you, sometimes.
A party is coming soon, to cristen the new place. I have a particular bottle of wine I will likely slam against a brick wall, for this special occasion. Look for news about the party in bullitens here on MySpace.
: )
