In the movie "Something's Gotta Give," Jack Nicolson's character Harry Sanborn has a crisis, that leads of course to the climax of the movie. I won't go into too much detail, but hear me out. His crisis has something to do with finding The One, with relationships, and how he relates to women he has an interest in.
Things are going especially non-well for Harry along these lines, so being a pretty together guy with a full, colorful history of dating a wide assortment of women he embaks upon a vision quest, of sorts. He wants to find out what he did/does wrong, so he can stop doing it. Sounds like not-so-bad-an idea, maybe. Maybe a pretty bright one.
I'm a pretty bright guy, most times. But that having been said, every now and then, I do some -stupid- shit.
Like, somewhere, the gremlins of misfortune get wind of some great idea I get into my head, and I can imagine them -barely- able to contain themselves with glee and giddiness.
"Pete's going to do -what-? Tell me again, Gremlin #3, because I could not have -possibly- heard you correctly. Tell us again, so the words may caress our pointy green ears with the feather kisses and cinder blocks of potential havok we will wreak on Mr. Pete.. oooooh yes, we will wreak it...."
Yea.
Here's a great idea, guys; When you are perhaps a tad more vulnerable then normal, when you start asking some fundemental questions about yourself, and are looking for insight, go to someone with whom you spent some of the best times of your life. Forget for a moment the tiny detail that you are, in fact, no longer with this person. Let them into your confidence, and just discard the notion that some spectacular thing happened to cause you two not to be together.
Then go to this person for wise and carefully considered counsel, in this tad-more-vulnerble state.
Or, save yourself a bit of time and trouble, find a decent-sized cinder block, and drop it on your instep. The resulting stress might be the same. For fun, you can go to more then one of these women, or drop more then one cinder block on various parts of your body.
Yes, sarcastic. Yes, negative. Yes, letting of a bit of steam.
But better then letting off steam, I think, would be being bright enough to know better then to drop cinderblocks on my foot. Time after time.Which brings up an interesting point...
Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick, and think of you
caught up in circles confusion
is nothing new
Flashback
warm nights
almost left behind
suitcases of memories, time after
sometimes you picture me
I'm walking too far ahead
you're calling to me, I can't hear what you've said
Then you say, go slow
I fall behind
the second hand unwinds
if you're lost you can look
and you will find me
time after time
if you fall I will catch you
I'll be waiting
time after time
after my picture fades and darkness has turned to gray
watching through windows
you're wondering if I'm OK
secrets stolen from deep inside the drum beats out of time
if you're lost you can look
and you will find me time after time if you fall I will catch you
I'll be waiting
time after time
time after time
time after time
